Who is The Grey Swan?
A little bit about me.
Hi.
My name is Jessica Lewin, and I’m the creator of The Grey Swan. I’m originally from Los Angeles, California, but I recently moved to New York City in September 2024 in hopes of finding a job.
I still haven’t found one…
But, in boredom and with abundant free time, I decided to start The Grey Swan: a digital mood board for idealizing your highest self, focusing on fashion, lifestyle and literature.
Moving across the country has come with a whirlwind of emotions and being unemployed has added a layer of difficulty. However, I do feel like I’m being pulled towards a higher purpose, getting closer to the person I’ve always wanted to be. And, I’m finally doing the things I always thought were cool.
A few things about me:
Books and fashion have always been the loves of my life.
I was a journalism and philosophy major in college. I added philosophy as a major later on in my college career because I was taking all the classes anyway and just loved them.
I speak French, a little bit of Spanish and I studied Russian for a few years during college.
I lived in France for 6 months, and I’m obsessed with French pharmacy skincare.
I love anything Ralph Lauren.
Some of my favorite authors are Dostoevsky, Ayn Rand, Kurt Vonnegut and Alexandre Dumas.
I was always detered from starting a project like this in fear of perception, that girls would be laughing at me for “caring.” But now I honestly don’t care. Every single day I’m chasing my highest values, in pursuit of becoming the “ideal.” To hell with everyone else.
The name The Grey Swan came from my love of Tchaikovsky and his ballet Swan Lake. I’d spend lots of time wondering whether I was the White Swan Odette, representative of lightness and purity or whether I was the Black Swan Odile, representative of darkness. I never felt like I was one or the other, so I decided to declare myself The Grey Swan. And as someone who has a flair for the dramatics, I have written Property of The Grey Swan in all seven volumes of my journals. And thus, the name The Grey Swan immediately clicked.
